Belize Development Partners

Since 2004, Belize Development Partners has been investing in and developing high quality residential developments, resorts and hotels in Belize. The company focuses on prime locations and strives to deliver projects that set new benchmarks in standards, quality, design and sustainability in Belize.

BDP has worked with several of Belize’s major banks for both development and operational funding although since 2018 all the companies projects have been completely free of any bank debt.

99% of the workforces the company utilizes on the ground for projects are local Belizeans.

BMA Architects

BMA is an architectural Studio devoted to providing professional services to individual clients, corporations and institutions. Since 1990 their office in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago de Chile, has finished more than 100 projects in a variety of countries around the world, gaining a reputation for high quality results. From airport terminals and shopping centres to individual houses, the excellent relationship with the clients has been considered fundamental to the firm’s success.

BMA have worked with the principals of BDP for fifteen years, including on Umaya Resort and Belize Rainforest Reserve.

Mendioroz Design

From the conception that design is a wonderful way to generate, develop and enhance business, Mendioroz Design has performed successfully in diverse fields in multiple countries. The studio has designed and implemented full branding, marketing and commercialisation programmes in a variety of sectors, from hotels and casinos to cinemas and supermarkets. 

Mendioroz have been integral to all design aspects of Umaya Resort and Falah Del Mar.

Carlos Montalvo

Charly studied Architecture and Urbanism at the Buenos Aires University. He has specialised in design and management of grand projects such as airports, cinemas, urbanisations and tourism resorts. Having worked for BMA for over fifteen years, managing significant projects in Argentina as well as Costa Rica and Brazil, Carlos has since spent many years in Belize. 

Charly was the project manager and chief architect for Umaya Resort and has been involved in the design and planning of Belize Rainforest Reserve and Falah Del Mar since conception. 

James Thornett

James is a former officer with the British military and has a degree in estate management and real estate. As part of his military postings he was a jungle warfare instructor based in Belize which is where his love of the country stems from. Upon leaving the military after the Iraq war, he went into property development, doing a number of developments in Washington D.C. James was lead consultant in the $60m refurbishment of the five star Al Rasheed hotel, in the Green Zone in Iraq, which hosted the Arab summit in 2012.  

James went back to Belize in 2014 and was part of the team that opened the Umaya Resort in Placencia. Since 2015 James has been actively involved in the design, planning, permitting and development of Belize Rainforest Reserve.

Ben Mason

Ben has been developing property for the past 18 years and has completed over 100 new-build properties across a number of countries. Originally from the UK, Ben first came to Belize in 2004 and moved to the country full time in 2012. Ben was the principal developer of Umaya Resort and oversaw the development, opening and operation of the resort. Having built one of the largest event spaces in Belize, Ben has worked with various government Ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to bring foreign heads of state to Placencia for the first time in 2014.

Ben's experience on the ground in Belize was instrumental in obtaining the relevant permits and approvals for Belize Rainforest Reserve and Falah Del Mar.


Allan Downie

Born in Melbourne, Australia and with a marketing degree and airline hospitality experience, 18yrs ago Allan embarked on a career as an Interior Manager in the Super Yacht industry. During that time Allan has travelled the world, orchestrating the very best service and experience for his discerning guests. 
Importantly, Allan has been an integral team member of 4 new build yachts, liaising with designers, owners and the shipyard, whilst establishing invaluable contact with all major suppliers of interior product you could imagine. 

It is this unquestionable wealth of design and supply knowledge and exceptional service standard that Allan brings to the Belize Rainforest Reserve management team.
